The show is an opportunity for West End theatre fans to witness a much-talked-about show from the Royal Shakespeare Company that has been receiving plenty of acclaim and abundant attention thanks to the talents that are working behind the scenes – from actor Paul Kaye and musician Tim Minchin to writer Dennis Kelly and director Matthew Warchus.
Roald Dahl’s “Matilda” tells the story of the title character – a girl that has been blessed with extraordinary intellect from an early age. Having read all of the books in her house before the age of 5 she proceeds to the local library and reads all the children’s books there, before moving on to school where her intellect continues to give her advantages and disadvantages. Then she discovers another gift – psychokinetic powers – which she is able to use to punish all of those that deserve it. The book was published in 1988, with a film following in 2006 from director Danny DeVito.
Many well known names have been a part of the cast since it emerged on the theatre scene and they have ensured that audiences have been flocking to the show since it opened. This is also likely to be something that continues throughout its run. After all, with a reputation like this, performers from across the capital will be wanting a look-in.
London theatre audiences will also get to experience the celebrated music from comedian Tim Minchin, which has contributed to the show’s worldwide reputation as one of the best musicals to emerge from the UK in many years. Minchin is known for his appearances in television shows like “Never Mind the Buzzcocks” plus the tour “Tim Minchin and his Orchestra”. So audiences know they are in for something special with the music he has created for the show.
